At I Learn Education meal times are happy, relaxed social occasions. Children sit in small groups at tables, and older children serve themselves lunch. Healthy eating is not just about what we put on the plate. It is about educating the children and giving them the knowledge and independence to make healthy choices that will leave them in good stead for the future.
At I Learn children grow their herbs and vegetables, we have “Mr Bloom” our gardener who comes in for sessions with the children. This ensures children get a first hand experience of where their food comes from. Each day cook has “handy helpers” who help prepare our vegetables, set tables and clear away.
Parents are required to provide formula milk. We can then move on to baby rice, pureed food and finally chunky food prepared from the older children’s menu. We welcome breast-feeding mothers by providing storage for expressed milk and a private place to breast feed if required.
Meals provided are nutritious and well balanced, and are freshly prepared on the premises by our qualified cook who has an understanding of nutrition, hygiene and menu planning. Mainly fruit, vegetables, meats and dairy is used in preparing children’s meals ensuring better nutrition and taste. Our nutritional policy takes into account best practice minimising the use of salt, sugar and other additives. Drinking water is available throughout the day. We cater for vegetarian and other special dietary needs.
There are 14 allergens which need to be declared. Food allergens have the potential to be life threatening. We have posters and information provided by the Food Standards Agency that we display and use to ensure that we are fully compliant.
Please rest assured that we currently have policies and procedures in place to ensure that there are no children that come into contact with any foods that they are allergic to. We make all foods with allergies in mind and all children eat the same food as we do not believe in singling out a child and making them feel different due to a dietary requirement. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more.
